This portrait of James Dwight Dana(1813-1895) was done in
the 1920s by Abner Lowe. Yale educated, Dana made significant
contributions to geology, mineralogy, and zoology. In 1838,
Dana accompanied the United States Exploring Expedition as

and detail left a lasting legacy for future systematic researchers
in these fields.
