Office of Budget, Planning, and Integration Mission

The Office of Budget, Planning, and Integration secures funding resources needed for the USGS to perform its mission goals, facilitates information sharing internally and externally, and provides in-depth analysis of budget and performance data for the USGS to understand, anticipate, and respond to shifts in social and political paradigms.

Office of Budget, Planning, and Integration Vision

The Office of Budget, Planning, and Integration secures the fiscal resources required for the USGS to be a world leader in the natural sciences through its interactions with Interior, OMB, the Congress, and partners.

Team Objectives

The USGS Office of Budget, Planning, and Integration aligns USGS issues, strategies, and funding with the strategic planning, priorities, and policy of the Administration, Department of the Interior, and Congress. The Office integrates the three themes of budget development, planning and performance management, and budget execution via functional teams:

Budget Team — Provides guidance to senior managers in formulating annual budget requests and developing budget initiatives; analyzes budget initiative proposals to ensure they comport with bureau and Department policy; develops budget justifications; integrates budget and performance metrics; participates in integrated science program development; and communicates proposals to the Department, OMB, and the Congress.

Planning Team — Grows awareness, develops understanding, recommends strategy, and supports managerial cost accounting to ensure USGS compliance with Executive and Legislative Branch mandates for budget and performance integration and program performance accountability to preserve the public trust.

Integration Team — Provides management studies and analyses to more effectively manage USGS resources and identify efficiencies and bureau best practices. Allocates funds received from Treasury to appropriate discipline accounts, monitors and reports expenditures to the Department, OMB and Congress, and ensures compliance with Federal financial regulations.
