Pride in our role as scientists and civil servants

USGS scientists occupy a unique niche in providing unbiased scientific information for the public good. Our earth science serves all sectors of society. As civil servants we play a vital role in carrying out the functions of government. Civil servants sustain government function and institutional knowledge during the political transition that occurs whenever a new president is elected, and we help to guarantee a civil society. I am proud to be a government scientist and believe that a strong civil service is the backbone of democracy.
