U.S. Geological Survey
The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) Customer Service Recognition Award recognizes organizations, teams, and individuals who are making a difference by providing outstanding service and improving levels of customer satisfaction with USGS products, information, and services. These are USGS employees who work closely with customers, take the time to ask customers for feedback, find opportunities for improvement, and implement actions to improve the way we do business, thus exceeding customer expectations. The Customer Service Recognition Award should not be confused with the Public Service Recognition Award. The Public Service Recognition Award is an honor award presented annually to recognize public service contributions of an employee. The Customer Service Recognition Award is intended to be informal and provide instant recognition of customer-oriented interactions and activities.
The Customer Service Recognition Award is designed to be simple and quick. The award is intended to instantly recognize and encourage employee and team efforts in customer service excellence as these efforts occur. USGS supervisors, peers and customers are eligible to nominate USGS employees and teams who should be recognized for special efforts in customer service. The nomination procedure is the same as for a STAR award with the exception that the Customer Service Recognition Award is non-monetary and intended to honor "heroes of customer service." There are no limits on the number of nominees or the number of award winners. Nominations meriting a Customer Service Recognition Award will receive certificates of appreciation signed by the Director, and a non-monetary memento. Supplies of the mementos will be maintained by the division/office Administrative Officers.
Award winners will be spotlighted through various mechanisms, including USGS inter- and intranet pages and People, Land and Water.
Any employee or customer of the USGS may nominate individuals, teams, activities or organizations for Customer Service Recognition Awards. Nominations should focus on outstanding customer service or increased customer satisfaction. This service can be for either internal or external customers, i.e., services provided to another office, bureau or agency, state, local, tribal or foreign governments, private sector or non-profit organizations, and the general public.
To be nominated, an individual, team, activity or organization must demonstrate special initiative and/or innovation in one or more of the following areas:
The accomplishment to be recognized should have been achieved at least during the past 12 months. The nomination form should be completed and submitted to the supervisor of the employee to be honored. A copy of the nomination form should be provided to the USGS Customer Service Representative, Program Operations Office, M.S. 105. Once approved, the supervisor will contact his/her Administrative Officer for a certificate and memento.
