About Us

Mission Statement

Our mission is to work with others to provide scientific understanding and technologies needed to support and implement sound management and conservation of our Nation's biological resources occurring in Hawai'i and other Pacific island locations.

PIERC science is conducted from Hawai'i west and south across much of the low-latitude Pacific Ocean. This geographic area spans six time zones, both sides of the equator and International Date Line, and is more than twice the size of the contiguous 48 U.S. states.

Pacific Basin

This picture shows the entire Pacific Basin. National Parks are indicated with yellow markers and National Wildlife Refuges with red markers.
