Is geologic carbon sequestration economically viable?

In the 2013 assessment, USGS did not look at the economics of geologic carbon sequestration.  What was assessed in this study was the technically accessible carbon dioxide storage potential, meaning it could be performed using today’s technology and standard engineering practices, whether or not it was economic to do so. Determining the economic requirements and possibilities for geologic carbon sequestration represents a future research path for USGS.
