How can I obtain historical USGS topographic maps?

About 180,000 USGS historical topographic maps (more than 95% of those ever published) are available to the public free of charge, and the number of maps available is still growing. This set of GeoPDF files is referred to as the Historical Topographic Map Collection (HTMC).

Downloading the GeoPDF data is free, and it's easy to view the map on a PC or Mac using free software. Historical topo maps can be downloaded through three interfaces:

Ordering a printed version will cost the price of the map ($15 each) plus $5 handling and any shipping charges. Printed copies can be ordered at the store.usgs.gov or by calling 1-888-275-8747 (1-888-ASK-USGS), option 1. Major credit cards are accepted.
