USGS SAGEMAP |
This site is a portal for spatial data needed for research and management
of sage grouse and shrubsteppe systems. The site is dynamically changing
as we update current information and incorporate new data. Therefore,
subsequent visits will reveal new data. Visit often to see what new data

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources' Great Basin Research Center |
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources' Great Basin Research Center,
located in Ephraim, Utah, conducts forest and rangeland restoration research
needed to implement effective wildlife habitat conservation programs
statewide. The primary objective is to develop the Division's capability
to restore poor-condition big game winter ranges. Much of this research
is carried out on public lands in cooperation with the Bureau of Land
Management and various National Forests. http://wildlife.utah.gov/gbrc/

The Great Basin Ecology Laboratory |
The Nevada Forestry Sciences Laboratory is part of the USDA Forest
Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station and is located on the University
of Nevada, Reno campus. It houses the Ecology, Paleoecology and Restoration
of Great Basin Watersheds Research Work Unit, and the Great Basin Ecosystem
Management Project. The research conducted at the laboratory uses a collaborative,
interdisciplinary approach to increase understanding of Great Basin ecosystems
and to develop approaches for maintaining and restoring their integrity.

Nevada Natural Heritage |
The mission of the Nevada Natural Heritage Program includes the coordination
of resource needs of Nevada's diverse biological heritage with human
activities. Because species do not live in isolation from each other
or the landscape, this coordination naturally involves many ecological
issues. The main thrust of ecology in the Nevada Natural Heritage Program
will be mapping and tracking plant communities. Plant communities can
be used to assess the condition of ecosystems and the landscape. Plant
communities also provide habitat for native animals (e.g. sage grouse).
Through a better understanding of plant communities across the landscape,
we can be more prepared to deal with issues of rare species as well as
a variety of human issues that involve land use. http://heritage.nv.gov/index.htm |

Healthy Lands Initiative |
The Healthy Lands Initiative in President Bush’s FY 2008 budget will expand cooperative conservation efforts to help restore nearly half a million acres of western land that hosts world-class wildlife habitat and energy resources and provides major economic benefits to local communities. The initiative focuses on six projects in areas facing the greatest challenges in managing natural resources to maintain multiple use. One of these areas is the Oregon-Idaho-Nevada Shrub Steppe region.
