Course title: USGS Radiation Safety
Description: System requirements include Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player v. 8 or newer and Adobe(R) Acrobat Reader, v. 8 or newer.
This course is open to all employees of the USGS but is required for employees working with a radio-utilization permit, under the broad-scope license.
Objectives:
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
--Interpret rules and regulations of the National Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
--Demonstrate proper use of personnel dosimetry and protective equipment.
--Recognize radiation survey instruments and their proper use.
--Identify contamination control and reporting.
--Summarize waste handling, inventory, and disposal of radiation.
--Describe emergency procedures, alarms, and corrective actions.
--Define access control and escort procedures.
--Identify radiation hazards and risks, radiological safety principles, policies, and procedures.
--Identify posting and labeling requirements.
--Interpolate the ALARA (“As Low as Reasonably Achieved”) policy and dose limits.
