Velocity Mapping and Bathymetry with ADCPs

Course code: USGS-OED-WRD-SW2782
Course title: Velocity Mapping and Bathymetry with ADCPs
Description: This week-long course is designed to provide those ADCP users familiar with discharge measurements with the skills, resources, and techniques necessary for velocity mapping and bathymetry surveys with an ADCP. Students will learn how to plan and execute surveys through several days of classroom and field work. Students will learn to process the data they collected and visualize and export it in a range of formats for delivery to cooperators, modelers, and the general public.
Standardize methodology within the USGS for velocity mapping and bathymetry measurements using ADCPs so that our cooperators and the general public consistently receive quality data regardless of the office performing the work. Students who complete this class should be able to 1) Design and plan a survey strategy, 2) Collect high quality data and 3) Process data using the Velocity Mapping Toolbox.
Prerequisite Info:
Attendees should have completed the USGS Course "Streamflow Measurements using ADCPs." It is recommended that the attendees have some familiarity with hydrographic surveying/navigation software and have it loaded on their laptop. This might include a version of HyPack, Fugawi, ArcGIS10, or other software allowing real-time navigation display.
