Annually, the USGS announces a Call for Nominations for the Leadership Intensives and Leadership 101 classes. This announcement is traditionally communicated early in October to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is announced to all employees.
Leadership 101 and Leadership Intensive courses are filled by nomination. Each ELT member is allotted a specific number of spaces commensurate with the size of their organization. Submissions are forwarded by the ELT to the Office of Organizational and Employee Development (OED ) by the due date. Selectees receive confirmation from the OED with specific class information and logistics.
If you are interested in attending one of the Leadership classes, talk to your supervisor and let them know you would like to be nominated.
Leadership Intensives—Numerous classes are hosted each year by the Regions and Headquarters offices around the country. In addition, open enrollment classes are offered for employees who are not able to attend in their duty locations.
Leadership 101—is offered two times per year and takes place at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Conservation Training Center, in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.
Regional Directors have the option to host a region-specific class in the location of their choice. All costs are borne by the sponsoring region. Regional Directors should discuss this option with OED staff in the fiscal year prior to the year the class will be held.
Leadership 201—is given two times per year at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Conservation Training Center, in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Leadership 101 is a prerequisite and graduates are automatically enrolled in part two of their training. If you are a graduate of Leadership 101 and were not able to attend Leadership 201 with your cadre and would like to complete your leadership training, call or email the program manager for further information.
