Call for Nominations for 2014 Honor Awards Memo

Subject:  New Deadlines for Honor Awards Nominations

The purpose of this memorandum is to advise on the new deadlines for receipt of the Honor Awards nominations and to share the 2014 Awards Ceremony programs and our new website.

In coordination with the Directorís Office, the new Honor Awards deadlines are noted below. All nominations should be forwarded through the appropriate supervisory channels and must be endorsed by a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Each nomination must include a completed Award Certification Form (DI-451) located at the following website: https://webforms.usgs.gov/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XsnLocation=https://webforms.usgs.gov/DI451/Forms/template.xsn&SaveLocation=https://webforms.usgs.gov/DI451&Source=https://webforms.usgs.gov/&DefaultItemOpen=1.
Each nomination must be a Word document attached in the Justification Section of the DI-451. If not listed, use the Other Awards box and fill in the title of the award. Where websites are noted below, please go to the appropriate links for nomination instructions.

Deadline: October 31, 2014 (As set by Department of the Interior (DOI)):

  • Distinguished Service Award (see guidelines)
  • Valor Award
  • Citizenís Award for Bravery

Deadline: October 31, 2014 (As set by USGS Office of Communications):

Deadline: December 31, 2014

  • Diversity Award at: http://internal.usgs.gov/diversity/
  • Excellence in Leadership and Early Career Excellence in Leadership Award http://www.usgs.gov/humancapital/ecd/ecd_awardnomination.html
  • John Wesley Powell Award (for private citizens/groups;DI-451 not required)
  • Meritorious Service Award (see guidelines)
  • Unit Award for Excellence of Service
  • Exemplary Act Awards

There is no deadline for Superior Service Awards (SSAs). These awards are project-based and can be submitted at any time following the successful completion of the project. The SSAs are presented by the appropriate ELT members during ceremonies at local duty stations.

Other honor awards (i.e. Environmental Achievement Award, GreenGov Award, Samuel J. Heyman Service to America (Sammie) Award, and Occupational Health and Safety Award) all have their own announcements and deadline dates. They will be advertised separately and are not included in the deadlines mentioned above.
