SAFRR - Science Application for Risk Reduction
Risk Perception and Communications Partnership for Community Disaster Resilience
The USGS SAFRR team has partnered with the Los Angeles County Community Disaster Resilience (LACCDR) 3-year pilot collaboration, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Mental Health that aims to engage community-based organizations in providing leadership and partnership to promote community resilience in the face of a wide range of public health emergencies, from pandemics to gang violence to earthquakes. Over the last year, Sue Perry has worked closely with project leaders, discussion groups, software developers and now the 8 pilot communities, to provide useful datasets and expertise from the USGS and other agencies, to assist communities as they prioritize their hazards, and to discuss opportunities to adapt this pilot project to other parts of the nation.
