USGS Study Confirms U.S. Amphibian Populations Declining at Precipitous Rates

In advance of Hurricane Irene, USGS scientists deployed storm surge sensors along the Eastern Seaboard to measure the height and intensity of the storm surge. Over the next several days, USGS crews will retrieve these sensors and begin to analyze the data. The information will help define the depth and duration of the storm-surge, as well as the time of its arrival and retreat. That information will help assess storm damage, discern between wind and flood damage, and improve computer models used to forecast future floods.
