Associate Director (Acting), Office of Budget, Planning and Integration, USGS
Olivia Barton Ferriter is the Acting Associate Director of the Office of Budget, Planning and Integration in the Office of the Director of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). She is the Bureau's chief adviser for all matters related to the budget, accountability, performance management.Career History and Highlights
Ms. Ferriter has broad professional experience gained through U.S. Department of the Interior leadership and management roles, as a senior aide on Capitol Hill and as an award-winning journalist for a major daily newspaper. She has served as the Deputy Director, Office of Policy Analysis, since January, 2011, and participates on the DOI Climate Change Advisory Team, providing leadership to implement Department-wide climate change adaptation policies.
As chair of Interior's Adaptive Management Working Group, she guided the development of the new Adaptive Management: The U.S. Department of the Interior Applications Guide for managers. In addition, she has represented Interior in efforts to explore an interagency approach to Ecosystem Services and Markets.
Prior positions include Director, Office of Conservation and Educational Partnerships; Chief of Staff, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science; and Congressional and Constituent Relations Specialist, U.S. Geological Survey. Ms. Ferriter served as press secretary and House Appropriations Committee associate staff for a senior member of Congress for 12 years. She also worked as a journalist for The Birmingham News, Birmingham, Alabama, and for Newhouse News Service, Washington, DC.
