Barbara WainmanAssociate Director, Office of Communications and Publishing, USGS Hi-res
Responsibilities: Ms. Wainman oversees the Congressional, Media Relations, Internal Communications, Web, and Publishing activities at the USGS and is responsible for developing and implementing the Bureau's outreach and communication strategies for external audiences and customers, and for engagement strategies and publishing functions within the USGS. Career History and Highlights: Ms. Wainman has been with the USGS for more than 7 years. Prior to joining the USGS, Mrs. Wainman headed up the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Legislative and Congressional Affairs Office for 2 years. In that position, she was responsible for developing the BLM's legislative policy and advocating its implementation with senior Bureau management and on Capitol Hill. Prior to joining BLM, she spent 19 years on Capitol Hill, 17 with Congressman Ralph Regula of Ohio, covering the Interior Appropriations Subcommittee and serving as the Congressman's Press Secretary. During her tenure on the Hill, she recommended and helped enact a number of significant initiatives including integrating the former National Biological Survey into the USGS and closing the Bureau of Mines. Education: Ms. Wainman has a bachelor's in government from Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
