Weather Station and Hazards Exhibit

Real-time weather information can be seen on an electronic display that is connected to automated weather instruments located on the top of the building.

Two computers display maps showing hazard information about U.S. tornado risk areas, landslide areas, volcanic hazards, general areas of major flooding, hurricane activity, earthquake hazards, and stream flow.

Four abstract prints depicting earthquake damage, volcanic eruption, mudflows, and flooding, and a scientist at work challenge the viewer to ponder the relationship between natural hazards and the environment built by man.

A replica of a Chinese seismoscope that is more than 2,000 years old is displayed. This instrument was used to indicate the direction of an earthquake. Chinese seismoscope
