3DEP Executive Forum

Purpose: To facilitate executive dialog and collaboration on strategies to implement and sustain 3DEP for the benefit of its Federal stakeholders and the broader community. Successful implementation of the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) depends on the development and adoption of a unified Federal approach to acquiring data.

Background

The 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) is managed by the USGS National Geospatial Program on behalf of the broader community with a goal of complete acquisition of nationwide lidar (IfSAR in AK) to provide the first-ever national baseline of consistent high-resolution elevation data – both bare earth and 3D point clouds. We also continue to be ready to meet growing needs for higher quality data, repeat coverage, and new products and services. These data serve government, public and private sector needs for a wide range of activities that include flood hazard mapping, precision agriculture, infrastructure planning and development, natural resource management, environmental assessment and a host of other applications.

Objectives

  • Develop plans and coordination actions for 3DEP implementation and monitor the status of the program.
  • Track and coordinate on significant developments regarding elevation or related geospatial activities - for example, actions being taken to address legislation, hurricane supplemental funding, GAO reports or other multi-agency activities.
  • Share insights and develop strategies to communicate with industry and other potential stakeholder groups that could play a role in 3DEP funding.
  • Provide executive direction and input to the 3DEP Working Group as the operational coordinating body for 3D Elevation Program.
