Message from the Director

Thanks for visiting our USGS California Water Science Center website.

Our Center works in partnership with over 140 state, local, and federal agencies to provide foundational hydrologic data and scientific analyses to address California’s complex water challenges. On this site, you will find access to the data we collect about the quality and quantity of California’s surface water and groundwater resources. You will also find information on studies we are conducting on a wide range of hydrologic issues throughout the State, including: water-supply and availability, water quality, sustainable groundwater management, droughts and floods, the Bay-Delta, aquatic ecology, climate change and variability, and watershed management.

The California Water Science Center has a dedicated staff of over 300 scientists, technicians, and support personnel in offices in Sacramento, San Diego, Truckee, Redding, Eureka, Ukiah, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Poway, and Redlands. We also operate a research drilling program headquartered in Las Vegas. Our goal here at the USGS California Water Science Center is to provide hydrologic data and analyses that are useful, accessible, and relevant to decision makers and to the citizens of California and the nation. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about our Center.
