Welcome Message from our Center Director

I'm Scott VanderKooi, Director of the U.S. Geological Survey's water resource activities in Washington State.

I'm Scott VanderKooi, Director of the U.S. Geological Survey's water resource activities in Washington State. Welcome to our home page. We're fortunate to have been investigating the water resources of our state for over 100 years. The data we collect is essential to provide a reliable supply of safe drinking water, as well as to protect people from floods and other natural disasters. Our data are also used to manage water resources for hydroelectric power, agriculture, manufacturing, recreation, and the environment. The USGS operates the most extensive satellite network of stream-gaging stations in the state, providing up-to-date information for flood warning and water-supply for various uses.
