Canyonlands National Park - Shafer Trail

The Shafer Trail road drops from the Canyonlands Island in the Sky district down the nearly sheer cliff face to the canyon below by a series of narrow, hairpin switchbacks. Below, it connects with the White Rim Road to the sputh/west and Potash Road heading east along the Colorado River. Visitors can also stop to look down on it from viewpoints above. Description Midsummer monsoonal moisture lingers in the clouds above the La Sal Mountains in the distance. Visitors enjoy the short walk to the Shafer Trail Overlook; trampling has eliminated the grasses and shrubs on the flat cliff-top in the near distance.
