David "Bo" Bunnell (GLSC, Ann Arbor, Michigan) was interviewed on March 22, 2019, by a journalist from the Chicago Sun-Times for an upcoming article about the prospects for the rainbow smelt fishery in southern Lake Michigan. The recreational fishery for rainbow smelt has been relatively low the past several years, which follows the long-term trend of the USGS bottom-trawl survey in Lake Michigan. Bunnell indicated that he wouldn't expect any dramatic changes to the smelt fishery this year based on the 2018 survey results.
