EarthMRI Implementation Team Receives the AASG 2019 Presidential Award

On June 12, 2019 at the annual Association of American State Geologists (AASG) meeting in Butte, MT the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI) implementation team was awarded the AASG's Presidential Award in recognition of “extraordinary service to geosciences and to the objectives of the AASG”.

On June 12, 2019 at the annual Association of American State Geologists (AASG) meeting in Butte, MT the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI) implementation team was awarded the AASG's Presidential Award in recognition of “extraordinary service to geosciences and to the objectives of the AASG”. Earth MRI is focused on acquiring state-of-the-art framework geologic maps, geophysical surveys and topographic (lidar) data for the Nation in areas containing potential undiscovered critical mineral resources. During Fiscal Year 2019 Earth MRI is funding 14 geologic mapping campaigns and 5 large geophysical surveys in areas across the Nation estimated to contain potential rare earth element mineral deposits as well as funding 30 state geological surveys' mineral resource data preservation activities.
