This is a full time position in the Henderson Office of the Nevada Water Science Center. This position is with the USGS/DOE Cooperative Program, which provides hydrologic and geologic expertise to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to address environmental and scientific issues at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

You will be working with a team of world-class scientists from Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Desert Research Institute, and other major environmental consulting firms. The USGS has historically provided hydrologic expertise and technical guidance to DOE, primarily on activities related to the characterization of the groundwater flow system. The USGS develops and participates in special studies to address unresolved hydrologic issues at the NNSS and provides regional synthesis and analysis of hydrologic information to determine groundwater flow directions and refine flow budgets in downgradient basins.

ABOUT THE AREA

Henderson is located in Southern Nevada, just 7 miles from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and a couple miles from Lake Mead, the country's largest man-made reservoir. Known throughout the nation for its premier master-planned communities, outstanding parks and recreation facilities and cultural arts, Henderson offers an enhanced quality of life for those who choose to live, learn, work and play here. Mild winter temperatures mean that boating, fishing, hiking, camping, golfing, and sight-seeing are available year-round. Henderson boasts over 1,000 acres of parks and more than 100 miles of trails. If that's not enough, there are six National Parks less than a 5-hour drive away and a ski resort in the Spring Mountains, just 45-minutes away on the other side of that famous Las Vegas Strip. Gambling is not a requirement to appreciate Las Vegas, home to 15 of the world's 25 largest hotels, a global fine-dining scene that includes 14 Michelin-starred restaurants, and countless production shows in an entertainment class all their own. Nevada has no state income tax and sales and property taxes are around the national median.  Henderson has been named as "One of the Best Cities to Live in America" by Bloomberg Businessweek, and in September 2015, Henderson was ranked as one of the Top 10 "Safest Cities in the United States" by the FBI Uniform Crime Report.  Find out more information using the links below:
