Kara Doran invited to present USGS coastal data, models, and tools to the Interagency Flood Risk Management Training Seminar

Physical Scientist Kara Doran will present USGS coastal data, models, and tools at the Interagency Flood Risk Management Training Seminar in St. Louis, MO. She is part of a session focused on coastal flooding along with other federal partners NOAA and USACE.

The training is presented annually by the National Flood Risk Management Program, the Silver Jackets, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established the Flood Risk Management Program in May of 2006 for two primary purposes:

  • To work across the agency to focus the policies, programs and expertise of the Corps toward reducing overall flood risk, including reducing the risk of loss of life, reducing long-term economic damages to the public and private sector, and improving the natural environment.
  • To convene and facilitate dialogue at all levels of government and with other key interests (e.g., national organizations and the private sector) to develop a national vision for flood risk management.

Objectives of the Interagency Flood Risk Management Training Seminars include:

  1. Expanding knowledge of new and continuing flood risk management team members.
  2. Strengthening skills necessary for repeatable and achievable interagency successes in flood risk management.
  3. Enhancing capacity to deliver integrated and adaptive approaches to flood risk management.
