NCASC Student Position: Species Range Shifts

The National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC) is seeking a student contractor to assist with a national synthesis of species range shifts in response to climate change.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC) is seeking a student contractor to assist with a national synthesis of species range shifts in response to climate change.

Types of Services Required:

Services will include:

  • Collecting and analyzing documented effects of climate change on fish and wildlife, with an emphasis on range shifts. As part of an effort to assess the body of evidence about range shifts in response to climate change, this project will involve working with USGS staff to conduct a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed articles on species’ range shift in response to climate change; articulate and assess hypotheses related to climate change-related range shifts in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems; and participate in a structured meta-analysis and publication process.
  • Assisting with data analysis
  • Assisting with the preparations of reports and manuscripts.

Required Expertise/Skills:

Completion of two or more years of academic course work including study of biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field. Knowledge of scientific disciplines related to ecology and climate change. Strong skills in reading and interpreting scientific publications; experience with statistical analysis; data management; and the ability to work independently. Experience writing scientific papers. Knowledge of basic computer operations and Microsoft Office.

Eligibility: Current student or recent graduate within 1 year of receiving degree.

Hours: Up to 20 hours/week for 1 year. Position will be fully remote.

Compensation: $16.26/hour or higher depending on experience and location.
