USGS Scientist Elected President of the Southwest Chapter of Society for Ecological Restoration

Laura M. Norman, USGS Research Physical Scientist, was nominated and elected President of the Society for Ecological Restoration, Southwest Chapter (SER-SW).

The Chapter facilitates communication and encourages coordination among land managers, researchers, and restorationists working in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, southern Nevada and southern California, where minimal and variable precipitation presents unique challenges for the restoration of degraded ecosystems. Norman brings her scientific background to the practice of ecological restoration as it relates to watershed management, climate change responses, biodiversity conservation, human communities, environmental policy and sustainable livelihoods. For more information, visit the SER-SW website (http://chapter.ser.org/southwest/
