Compilation of vitrinite reflectance data for the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah

This data release is a compilation of vitrinite reflectance (Ro) data from the Southwestern Wyoming Province in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. The data includes about 1,200 Ro measurements from wells drilled for oil and gas exploration and production, coal test holes, and outcrop sections.

Rare earth element concentrations for oil shales and isolated kerogens from around the world

This Data Release contains lanthanide (i.e., rare earth element, REE), yttrium (Y), and scandium (Sc) concentrations for oil shales and kerogens isolated from those presented in the associated journal article "Role of Organic Matter and Thermal Maturation in Rare Earth Element Partitioning in the Middle Devonian Sequence of the Appalachian Basin". This dataset provides REE content for a diverse ra

Geochemical and spectroscopic data on core samples from Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania

This data release contains geochemical and spectroscopic laboratory results associated with the journal article "Middle-Late Holocene paleolimnological changes in central Lake Tanganyika: Integrated evidence from the Kavala Island Ridge (Tanzania)". Data include bulk organic geochemistry, organic stable carbon isotope, and infrared spectroscopic analyses. Location for LT-TANG17-9B-1U-1: latitude:

USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—West-Central Coastal Province (Africa) Presalt: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data, and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the presalt reservoirs of the West-Central Coastal Province of Africa. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil

USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—Raton Basin-Sierra Grande Uplift Province, Raton Continuous Resources: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in upper Cretaceous marine shales in the Raton Basin-Sierra Grande Uplift Province, Colorado and New Mexico. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment

USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project- Gulf Coast Smackover Conventional Oil and Gas Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of undiscovered conventional oil and gas resources in the Smackover formation in the U.S. Gulf Coast. The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the hig

Screening geochemistry, gas chromatography, and solid bitumen reflectance data in the Bakken petroleum system, Williston Basin, USA

Thirty-two organic-rich samples from the lower and upper shale members of the Devonian–Mississippian Bakken Formation were collected from eight cores across the Williston Basin, USA, at depths (~7,575–11,330 ft) representing immature through post peak oil/early condensate thermal maturity conditions. Reflectance results were correlated to programmed temperature pyrolysis parameters [hydrogen index

The Stable Carbon Isotope Dataset of Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells Measured by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry

This data release contains data associated with the journal article, “Comparison of δ13C Analyses on Individual Foraminifer (Orbulina universa) Shells by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry and Gas-Source Mass Spectrometry”. Data tables are comprised of stable carbon isotope (δ13C) measurements of planktic foraminifer (Orbulina universa) shells measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and co

Formation tops data from the stratigraphic cross sections of the Lewis Shale in the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming and Colorado

This data release contains data associated with the USGS SIM publication "Stratigraphic Cross Sections of the Lewis Shale in the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming and Colorado". North-to-southeast (A–A’), west-to-east (B–B’), and southwest-to-northeast (C–C’) cross sections were created from 105 wells throughout the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province. The cr

Digital Stratigraphic and Structural Grids of the Cretaceous Lewis Shale in the Eastern Part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province, Wyoming and Colorado

This data release contains data associated with the Lewis Shale-Fox Hills Sandstone-Lance Formation depositional system (also referred to as the Lewis Shale system) in the eastern part of the Southwestern Wyoming Province of Wyoming and Colorado. Specifically, the data cover the Great Divide, Washakie, and Sand Wash Basins, the Wamsutter and Cherokee arches, and the Rock Springs Uplift. The Lewis

Geochemical and isotopic data from glendonites and surrounding sediment, Carter Creek, North Slope Alaska

The dataset consists of geochemical and isotopic data from fine-grained sediments and glendonite crystals collected at Carter Creek on the North Slope of Alaska. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) values in the measured section were found to range between 0.5 and 3.5%, with a shift towards lower values in the uppermost 5 m of the section. Stable isotopes (13C) in organic matter were relatively stable thro

New Source Rock Data for the Niobrara and Sage Breaks intervals of the lower Cody Shale in the Wyoming part of the Bighorn Basin

In 2019 the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) quantitively assessed the potential for undiscovered, technically recoverable continuous (unconventional) oil and gas resources in the Niobrara interval of the Cody Shale in the Bighorn Basin Province (Finn and others, 2019). Leading up to the assessment, in 2017, the USGS collected samples from the Niobrara and underlying Sage Breaks intervals (Finn, 2019
