Invertebrate community data from native trout lakes and streams in the Southern Rocky Mountains

Native trout in the West suffer a high degree of vulnerability, as highlighted by cutthroat trout, a group of 14 subspecies, most of which have been petitioned for listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In the Southern Rocky Mountains, greenback cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii stomias; GBCT) are listed as threatened under the ESA, and few populations remain, in part because of the i

Drone- and ground-based measurements of velocity, depth, and discharge collected during 2017-18 at the Arkansas and South Platte Rivers in Colorado and the Salcha and Tanana Rivers in Alaska, USA

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is actively investigating the use of innovative remote-sensing techniques to estimate surface velocity and discharge of rivers in ungaged basins and river reaches that lack the infrastructure to install conventional streamgaging equipment. By coupling discharge algorithms and sensors capable of measuring surface velocity, streamgage networks can be established in

Cross-Section Geometry and Sediment-Size Data from Muddy Creek and North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir, western Colorado, 2019

This dataset contains cross-section geometry and sediment-size data collected in the fall of 2019 from Muddy Creek and North Fork Gunnison River below Paonia Reservoir, western Colorado. Six cross sections were surveyed using Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) methods to document channel geometry below Paonia Reservoir. One cross section was surveyed on Muddy Creek b

Data set for an ecological risk assessment of Firpronil compounds in US streams

The phenylpyrazole insecticide fipronil and its degradates are a potential surface-water contaminant and toxicant to nontarget species such as aquatic macroinvertebrates. To better understand how fipronil, fipronil sulfide, fipronil sulfone, desulfinyl fipronil, and fipronil amide affect aquatic communities, a 30-day mesocosm experiment was run. Rock trays were colonized with natural benthic commu

Acoustic, Spatial, and Sediment Size Data Collected on the Upper Colorado River to Estimate the Flushing Flows, Colorado, 2019

In 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Upper Colorado River Wild and Scenic Stakeholder Group, studied the magnitude and frequency of streamflow needed to initiate bedload transport of gravel-sized and finer sediment on the Colorado River to maintain spawning habitat for fish and maintain substrate and interstitial spaces for benthic macroinvertebrates. Bedload transport occu

Concentration of inorganic chemistry associated with suspended sediment at Muddy Creek below Paonia Reservoir, U.S. Geological Survey site number 385626107212000.

Dataset includes the analysis results of 49 inorganic chemical elements bound to suspended-sediment particles below Paonia Reservoir during a sediment release in September 2017. Suspended-sediment samples were collected at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) station number 385626107212000 by following data collection procedures and protocols in Edwards and Glysson (1999). The samples were freeze-dried a

Environmental-tracer modeling to support hydrogeochemical evaluation of the Fountain Creek Alluvial Aquifer, El Paso County, Colorado, 2018-2019

This data release contains environmental tracer concentrations, modeled recharge conditions (water temperature, excess air), and resulting estimated groundwater residence times. This dataset supports an integrated hydrogeochemical investigation of solute sources, groundwater recharge processes, and groundwater flow in the Fountain Creek alluvial aquifer. The data release contains five comma separ

SnowModel simulations and supporting observations for the Rio Grande Headwaters, southwestern Colorado, United States, 1984 - 2017

This data release supports the study by Sexstone and others (2020) and contains simulation output from SnowModel (Liston and Elder, 2006), a well-validated process-based snow modeling system. Simulations are for water years 1984 through 2017 (October 1, 1983 through September 30, 2017) across a 11,200 square kilometer model domain in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, United States t

Survey and Bathymetric Data of Deadmans Lake; Golf Course Reservoir 9; Ice Lake; Kettle Lakes 1-3; and Non-Potable Reservoirs 1-4 at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado, 2019 (ver. 1.1, June 2020)

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Air Force Academy, carried out bathymetry surveys to characterize the water-supply capacity of Deadmans Lake; Golf Course Reservoir 9; Ice Lake; Kettle Lakes 1, 2, and 3; and Non-Potable reservoirs 1, 2, 3, and 4 at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado in 2019. This data release includes: the elevation and volumes at specified elevati

Climatological data for the Loch Vale watershed in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, water years 1992-2019

This data release contains hourly means of climatological data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from 10/1/1991 to 9/30/2019 at three weather stations in the Loch Vale watershed in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), Colorado. In order of increasing elevation, the three weather stations are Loch Vale meteorological station at RMNP, Colo. (Main weather station, USGS station 4017191053

Surrogate regression models for computation of time series suspended-sediment concentrations at Muddy Creek above Paonia Reservoir, Anthracite Creek above mouth near Somerset, and North Fork Gunnison below Raven Gulch near Somerset, Colorado

This model archive summary documents the surrogate regression model used to compute suspended-sediment concentrations at Muddy Creek above Paonia Reservoir, CO, USGS site number 385903107210800. The methods used follow U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) guidance as referenced in relevant Office of Surface Water Technical Memorandum (TM) 2016.07 and Office of Water Quality TM 2016.10, and USGS Technique

Data for Fluoride Occurrence in United States Groundwater

Data from 38,105 wells were used to characterize fluoride occurrence in untreated United States groundwater. The data were retrieved from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Information System (NWIS). Groundwater samples were collected from 1988 to 2017 in the conterminous United States. Data for groundwater included in this dataset are pH, water temperature, and concentrations of dis
