Historical flood reports for the 1890s are sparser than for most other decades. In June 1891, substantial flooding occurred in the Deadwood and Lead area and along the Fall River in Hot Springs. A flood occurred along Spearfish Creek and in the Hot Springs area in July 1895. A storm that began on June 6, 1896, caused flooding throughout much of the Black Hills. In the Hot Springs area, floods occurred on September 12, 1896, and August 6–7, 1897.
