Biology
In order to conserve or restore native imperiled species, natural resource managers must understand the biology, or internal workings, of these species. This helps them identify strategies for or impediments to restoration or conservation efforts. Scientists at the GLSC focus extensive research on the native lake trout, including trends of insufficient nutrition (vitamin B) in reproduction, the function of pheromones, the use of energy, and the effects of catch-and-release deep-water angling practices. The GLSC also studies the morphology of native coregonid prey fish species, generating tools for scientists and fishery managers.
