Arctic Grayling research leading to reintroduction in Michigan streams

Nicole Watson (GLSC, LSBS, Ashland, WI) was interviewed on April 18th, 2025, by Arielle Breen with the Manistee News Advocate on her Michigan State University dissertation research on the Arctic grayling. The focus was on the experience of transporting Arctic grayling eggs from Fairbanks, Alaska to East Lansing, Michigan; the timeline of her dissertation research; and key takeaways of her findings. This interview comes in advance of a May 12th ceremony marking a key milestone in the Arctic grayling reintroduction effort between Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Click here to read the article.
