Antibiotics are used for human health and livestock management and health. The increase of antibiotic resistant infections has resulted in concern that sub-therapeutic use of antibiotics for weight gain in livestock and the release of low levels of antibiotics into surface and groundwater from urban and agricultural sources may be contributing to this problem.

LCAB: Antibiotic Method

If samples are being collected at locations within a treatment plant please signify, for example, post chlorination DWTP

  • Sample collection requirements: 3-125mL (4oz) amber glass bottles with Teflon lined caps per sample. Samples submitted for the LCAB method also need to include identifiers on the bottle labels as indicated below:
    • Please include one of the following:
    • (WWTP) Waste Water Treatment Plant
    • (DWTP) Drinking Water Treatment Plant
    • (GW) Groundwater
    • (SW) Surface water

     

    • Also, one of the following would be most typical:
    • Influent (for samples collected from WWTP)
    • Effluent (for samples collected from WWTP)
    • Source (for samples collected from DWTP)
    • Intake (for samples collected from DWTP)
    • Finish (for samples collected from DWTP)
    • Groundwater
    • Surface Water
  • Instrumentation: Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry
  • Data results uploaded to QWDX upon request
