Species at Risk

Species are considered “at-risk” if they face grave threats to their survival and FWS has defined “at-risk species” as those that are: 1) Proposed for listing under the ESA by FWS; 2) Candidates for listing under the ESA, which means they are in the queue to be listed; or 3) Petitioned for listing under the ESA, which means a citizen or group has requested that FWS add them to the list of protected species. Researchers at Leetown Science Center are providing the scientific information to help FWS prioritize species in need of conservation and determine appropriate conservation actions.
