New England Water Science Center

Hydrology and Hydraulics

Quantitative assessments of surface waters are needed to address a wide range of water-resource issues facing New England. Scientists in the Hydrology and Hydraulics section investigate surface-water processes and provide state-of-the-art scientific and engineering analyses to policymakers, planners, and resource managers in New England and beyond. Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analyses of USGS streamflow data are frequently used to understand surface-water processes. Streamflow monitoring network data are used for many purposes, including flood prediction, drought monitoring, development of reservoir operation plans, developing predictive equations, and other related planning activities.
