Nutrient Monitoring for TMDL's
The Federal Clean Water Act, Sections 303(d) and 305 (b) mandates that states develop a list of water bodies summarizing the state’s water quality and a sub list identifying impaired water bodies for which total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) may be necessary. The USGS will collect, analyze, and publish water quality and streamflow data during 12 events at 19 stream sites (8 in the Saddle River basin...
NJ Highlands Water Resources Assessment
The water resources assessment of the New Jersey Highlands Region will be accomplished through a comprehensive hydrologic analysis of subwatersheds at the HUC-14 scale. The overall objective of this project is to assist the New Jersey Highlands Council in the development of the Regional Master Plan by providing the hydrologic data and interpretation necessary for a comprehensive assessment of...
Streamflow characteristics and the basis for ecological flow goals
The population increase and the associated development have necessitated an increase in the withdrawals of both surface and groundwater to meet water-supply demands, have increased the amount of wastewater discharged from treatment facilities, and have increased the amount of impervious surface area and resulting stormwater flows. Since streamflow can be influenced by both human activities and...
Pilot for Long Term Daily Hydrograph Development for the Ecological Flow Goals
To use NJHAT at ungaged sites, an analytical tool is required that can develop a long-term daily hydrograph at these sites. The objectives of the project is to pilot the use of TOPMODEL and DHI software to produce long-term hydrographs at gaged sites and to show that one or both of these models could be used to produce long-term hydrographs at ungaged sites with sufficient accuracy for use with...
Northeast Water Supply
The NJDEP is conducting a Water Supply Assessment of Northeast NJ and would like the District to help in that assessment, provide modeling tools to project flows, and provide technical assistance. The goals of this project are associated with water supply within the region.
Investigation of Potential Threats to Water Supply from the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer System in Salem and Eastern Gloucester Counties, New Jersey
Growth in Salem and western Gloucester Counties has spurred interest in additional withdrawal from the PRM. Several deleterious consequences of additional withdrawals are possible. The goals of this project were to determine and estimate additional pumpage from the PRM aquifer, determine the effects of additional pumpage, and determine areas and their associated timeframes of saltwater intrusion.
Critical area analysis
The development of groundwater in the New Jersey Coastal Plain has occurred primarily near large population centers, creating large regional cones of depression in several of the New Jersey Coastal Plain aquifers. Continued decline of water levels in the confined aquifers poses the threat of serious adverse effects to the water supply in some areas, including the depletion of groundwater supplies...
Domestic Well Database
The data collected under the PWTA Program represents the most extensive body of analytical results collected from private wells in New Jersey. Increasing demands for the analysis of this data, from both a public health perspective and as a tool for evaluating the groundwater quality of sources supplying small domestic wells, require the DEP to restructure the existing data system.
