Santa Monica Mountains Field Station

Dr. Erin Boydston leads the research program at the Santa Monica Mountains Field Station. Select the "Science" tab to learn more about her projects.

The Santa Monica mountains mark the interface between wild landscapes and heavily populated urban areas, like Los Angeles. Human development can fragment important wildlife habitat, however, and potentially cause long-ranging mammals to cross urban areas to reach isolated patches of wildland. Dr. Erin Boydston is leading a research program to tag and track large carnivores such as bobcats (Lynx rufus), mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), and mountain lions (Puma concolor).
