Communications and Publishing
The Office of Communications and Publishing (OCAP) is the front door to the USGS. While our scientists are conducting in-depth research, it is the job of the Office of Communications and Publishing to present their research in a format suitable to the public. Our office is in charge of everything from Social Media to Congressional affairs for the USGS.
Congressional Liaison Office
We help the USGS communicate with Capitol Hill about the importance of our science and provide information about actions on the Hill that may impact USGS work.
External Communications
USGS External Communications is designed to connect with different important audiences to maximize the reach of USGS science and services. It consists of Public Affairs for media contacts, Science Information Services (SIS) for the general public, External Affairs for NGO's and State-level government, and Digital Services for our web presence.
Public Affairs
We create articles and announcements sharing USGS science on our website and work with the news media to reach broad audiences. As part of our robust fundamental science practices, USGS scientists are free to talk to the media about their science without interference. We ask all media representatives to initiate all inquiries through our Public Affairs program so we can coordinate appropriately internally.
Internal Communications
We serve the needs of the USGS employee and are responsible for engaging employees in a dialogue with USGS leadership through @TheCore, an intranet site available to only USGS employees.

This site provides resource information and policy guidance related to publishing and release of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) information products.
