Metadata Preparation

The National Digital Catalog (NDC) provides a centralized resource for exposing geoscience assets, preserved by states and U.S. Department of the Interior, to increase access and use by researchers, resource managers, decision-makers, and the public. At project completion, NGGDPP grant recipients submit metadata records describing the preserved materials, including access information, to the NDC using the NDC Dashboard. States may upload and store data and/or image files with metadata records in the NDC to enhance direct access by users. Preserved collections may be described using an online metadata form available in the NDC Dashboard. Individual collection items shall be described in flat files (CSV format) or XML-formatted files conforming to the NGGDPP metadata schema that specifies metadata elements.
