The RCA-EO project has established an initial capability accept internal USGS user requests for analysis using the value tree information (VTI) elicited from discussions with subject matter experts (SMEs) from each of the USGS programs.

The RCA-EO project has established an initial capability accept internal USGS user requests for analysis using the value tree information (VTI) elicited from discussions with subject matter experts (SMEs) from each of the USGS programs. VTI provides information on:

  • Key data, products, and services (KPS) used by a program for science work
  • Products and services generated by a program
  • Importance of a KPS to science work done by a program
  • Narrative discussion on possible KPS areas of improvement

VTI information can be used to address questions such as:

  • Usage of data, products, or services by programs
  • Usage of generated products and services by other USGS programs
  • Impacts of data, products, and services to science work
  • Possible KPS enhancements from narrative discussions

Future RCA-EO releases will contain requirements information elicited from programs that utilize Landsat data/products/services as a key component of their science work. A database of system capabilities is also being populated in EORES and will be available for use in assessing how well a system could meet user needs/requirements. An initial set of high-priority system will be loaded, followed by regular updates and maintenance updates on a periodic basis. Once implemented, future releases will allow consideration of questions such as:

  • Gap analysis assessing how well a system (capability) meets a program’s needs/requirements
  • Assessment of the impact of future enhancements to KPS to improve products and services generated by a program
  • Data discovery to identify other sources of data and products that may be used by a program

RCA-EO does not maintain information on product distribution of general user statistics, and will not be able to address questions in these areas.
