Mineral Resources Program

Data and Tools

MRP information and data can be accessed through multiple pathways from publications to data releases. The Mineral Resources Online Spatial Data web portal is MRP's primary resource for interactive maps and downloadable geospatial data for regional and global geology, geochemistry, geophysics, and mineral resources. Individual data releases and data sets are also listed below.

Reanalysis of Additional Selected Archived NURE-HSSR Sediment Samples from Idaho and Montana

In December of 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) signed a Technical Assistance Agreement with a third party to reanalyze 2,324 archived sample splits collected as part of the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance (HSSR) project from selected areas in Idaho and Montana.

Digital map of iron sulfate minerals, other mineral groups, and vegetation of the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, and Four Corners Region derived from automated analysis of Landsat 8 satellite data

Multispectral remote sensing data acquired by the Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor were analyzed using a new, automated technique to generate a map of exposed mineral and vegetation groups in the western San Juan Mountains, Colorado and the Four Corners Region of the United States (Rockwell and others, 2021).

Digital map of iron sulfate minerals, other mineral groups, and vegetation of the western United States derived from automated analysis of Landsat 8 satellite data

Multispectral remote sensing data acquired by Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor were analyzed using an automated technique to generate surficial mineralogy and vegetation maps of the conterminous western United States.

Gallium Deposits in the United States

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides the descriptions of the only U.S. sites?including mineral regions, mineral occurrences, and mine features?that have reported production and (or) resources of gallium (Ga).

SHRIMP U-Pb geochronologic data for zircon and titanite from Mesoproterozoic rocks of the St. Francois Mountains terrane, southeast Missouri, U.S.A.

These data are for a regional geochronologic study of Mesoproterozoic rocks in the St. Francois Mountains, southeast Missouri. Zircon, plus one sample of titanite, from fifty samples of metaigneous rocks were dated by sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP).

Tantalum Deposits in the United States

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides the descriptions of the only U.S. sites—including mineral regions, mineral occurrences, and mine features—that have reported production and (or) resources of tantalum (Ta).

Niobium Deposits in the United States

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides the descriptions of 11 U.S. sites that include mineral regions, mines, and mineral occurrences that contain enrichments of niobium (Nb). To be included in this data release, a site must have a contained resource and (or) past production of Nb metal greater than 10,000 metric tons, which was the approximate consumption of Nb in the U.S....

Whole-rock geochemical data for alkaline intrusive rocks in the Wet Mountains area of Custer and Fremont Counties, south-central Colorado, USA

This data release contains the whole-rock major and trace element analyses of 51 samples of intrusive igneous rocks from the Wet Mountains area of Custer and Fremont counties of south-central Colorado, collected by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologists. The samples were collected from breccias, veins and thin dikes, and a variety of carbonatite, felsic, mafic, and ultramafic

Bayesian modeling of NURE airborne radiometric data for the conterminous United States: predictions and grids

This data release includes estimates of potassium (K), equivalent uranium (eU), and equivalent thorium (eTh) for the conterminous United States derived from the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) national airborne radiometric data compilation (Duval and others, 2005). Airborne gamma ray spectrometry (AGRS) measures the gamma-rays that are emitted from naturally occurr

Influence of wildfire and beetle-caused canopy mortality on water temperature regimes in cutthroat trout streams, Rocky Mountain National Park, CO.

This dataset was collected to build on past and ongoing monitoring and research efforts within Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). Specifically, the data were collected to test the hypothesis that reductions in canopy cover due to natural disturbances (i.e. wildfire and beetle kill) result in increases in water temperature, or the longitudinal thermal gradient of a

Hydrologic and geophysical data from high-elevation boreholes in Redwell Basin near Crested Butte, Colorado

Four boreholes (MW1, MW1UZ, MW2, MW2.1) were drilled in the fall of 2017 and summer of 2018 in upper Redwell Basin, a headwater catchment underlain by hydrothermally altered sedimentary rock in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The boreholes were continuously cored using a wireline HQ-sized coring system and sample a combination of Quaternary-aged surficial
