Detailed Description

Male adult Ring-necked Duck part of a multi-state, multi-year research project looking at migration routes and breeding area for Ring-necked Ducks that winter on freshwater wetlands in the southeastern US. Cooperators include the state wildlife agencies in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, plus the University of Georgia, University of Missouri, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Early results from ducks with radio transmitters attached in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina show that they migrate further west in Canada to breed than was previously thought. Such information may be used by the flyway councils and US Fish and Wildlife Service to set hunting regulations.
