SCREE boatwoman rowing Red Canyon in the rain
Detailed Description
This photo demonstrates one of the challenges of down-river boating in the Colorado River system. Due to the relatively high elevations of the river and surrounding mountainous topography, in the early spring boaters often encounter extreme swings in weather, including snow, heavy wind, rain, and hail, often followed by days of intense sunlight bringing extreme dryness and heat.
