Multi-grid Analysis of Point Stability Tool
Elevation-change datasets can also be used to identify stable and unstable areas of the seafloor. The Multi-grid Analysis of Point Stability (MAPS) program was created to automate this process. This program is used to locate persistent areas of user-defined seafloor stability and/or instability at common geographic locations from multiple elevation-change datasets (grids) representing different time periods of elevation-change. A user-specified threshold of elevation-change values defines a degree of seafloor stability. MAPS uses the threshold and a user-specified search radius to locate regions that meet the threshold and radius criteria within each dataset and then locates corresponding geographic regions among multiple data sets that meet the threshold criteria.
MAPS is a Python script intended to be run as an ArcGIS script tool in either ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. The elevation-change datasets must be point feature classes. The tool outputs two point feature classes for each input feature class. The first output contains the points in the input feature class with elevation-change values falling within the stability range. The second output feature class contains only those points that met the stability threshold and were within a certain distance of at least one stable point in the other input feature class, indicating that the point is stable in both input feature classes. Additional details on the output creation are provided in the "Operation" section of this README.
