The North Pacific Pelagic Seabird Database (NPPSD) is maintained by the USGS ASC and includes survey transect data designed and conducted by numerous partners primarily to census seabirds at sea. The USGS developed a R Shiny application to facilitate viewing and filtering the NPPSD using an interactive leaflet map. Database records can be filtered by higher taxonomy (bird vs. mammal observations), family, species, primary investigator, date, and location. Users have the option to automatically zoom to the selected data, or to zoom in to an area of interest before plotting available data for that area. There is also the option to plot locations where surveys took place, but no observations were recorded that match the user’s selected filters. The app contains tabs for displaying the selected data in map or table form. The selected dataset can then be downloaded as a .csv file. The app contains the most recent version of the NPPSD dataset, which will be updated annually by USGS.
