Capabilities
The HIF provides training, repairs, calibrations, and testing services for instruments and equipment through our warehouse and laboratories. HIF facilities include a warehouse, testing laboratories and a hydraulic laboratory with large calibration tow tanks and tilting flume. HIF facilities are available to USGS; other Federal, State, and local agencies; academic facilities; and private industry.
Training at the HIF
The HIF offers several hydrologic instrument training courses to USGS as well as other federal and state agencies. Courses provide lectures and hands-on experience with equipment and instruments.

The HIF rents and sells quality-assured hydrologic equipment to the USGS and other Federal and State agencies ONLY.

Instrumentation Evaluations
The HIF evaluates equipment and instruments in an effort to ensure that these devices will meet the requirements of the USGS for hydrologic data collection. These requirements include accuracy, performance under a wide range of environmental conditions, and cost effectiveness.

Facilities at the HIF
The HIF has several labs and field sites that offer unique capabilities for evaluating instrumentation. The Hydraulics Laboratory's tanks and flumes test instruments under a variety of conditions, and the Environmental Test Chamber and Water Quality Labs perform quality assurance tests and evaluations. The HIF also deploys instruments for field testing at stations on the Pearl and Wolf Rivers.
