Sioux Falls, South Dakota 1972 - 2023

Detailed Description

As the first home of the USGS Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center, the city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota has seen substantial growth in the past 50 years. When Landsat 1 launched in 1972, the city had a population of about 75,000; in 2023, over 200,000 people call Sioux Falls home. As we can see in these images, the urban area has extended out in all directions, and now nearly connects the city to the neighboring communities.
