Detailed Description

A thin fluid sheet of pāhoehoe flows from underneath the fractured crust of a tumulus (inflated flow surface which is pushed upward), and quickly filled in nearby low areas. This surface activity from the June 26 breakout is close to the base of the pali. The tumulus (mound) on the left half of the photo is roughly 3 m (10 ft) tall.
