Channelized flow from Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō

Detailed Description

‘A‘ā flow erupted from Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō during episode 10. The characteristic rough, blocky surface of cooled ‘A‘ā is visible at the margins of the flow. The river of lava inside the channel travels much faster than the flow actually advances at the leading edge (not in view). This is because the lava flow fans out at the terminus of the flow and slows as its margins cool. Episode 10 flows spread a maximum of 4 km (2.5 mi) from Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō.
