High elevation ohi‘a forest on Kaua‘i Island, Hawai‘i
Detailed Description
Non-native disease-carrying mosquitoes have decimated low elevation populations of native Hawaiian birds, and are now moving into high elevation forests. New research shows that if current rates of decline continue in high elevation forests several native Hawaiian forest birds endemic to the island of Kaua‘i face extinction within decades.
